Reframing the question: What’s my purpose?
Many of us traverse life in search of meaning or a sense that our existence matters. It’s a search deeply enmeshed within the human condition and so often, that search can spin us into a frenzy of feeling incomplete. It can send us down many a rabbit hole on the quest for meaning - true Alice in Wonderland vibes.
The word PURPOSE, in my opinion, has become vague, overused and mostly serves to confuse and alienate folks. This is because I’ve noticed PURPOSE (especially in self-development, circles) is often injected with separatist energy, as in: “Well, I know what the fuck I’m doing with myself, why don’t you?”
Here’s the thing, actual purpose, to use the words of spiritual teacher Ram Dass (RIP) is to BE HERE, NOW and secondly, in my opinion, it’s layered, nuanced and can be looked at in a myriad of ways.
As humans, we are all here to give and receive love, to evolve, connect and thrive. We are here to experience suffering, pain and loss because those last three are inevitable. We are here to BREATHE, we are here to BE. And if you find yourself doing both of those, be reminded that that’s enough.
Along our evolutionary journeys to becoming conscious of our very nature, we are here to develop an awareness of who we are so that we may know the divinity of what we are.
Just as every tree, puppy and snowflake is a unique expression of life - no two human beings are the same. Each of us is made up of a different energetic composition designed to guide us toward finding peace and aliveness in the present moment as well as navigating our own, unique path in an aligned manner.
Our PURPOSE, therefore, is to honour our divine nature in spite of the system’s attempt to condition us into a homogenized way of thinking and existing.
In my experience, Human Design has provided me with clear indicators of my true versus conditioned nature. It shows me the composition of my energy body in a macro sense i.e.: As a person with Manifesting energy, I am designed to initiate action. In more of a micro sense, part of living my truth in accordance with my energetic composition is to express my life experiences and emotions to others. It is also part of my purpose to embody the child-like, live-loving energy I innately carry. It’s not that I make a living from embracing these qualities specifically, it’s not about that. Rather, I express them daily, in all areas of my life and by doing so, I feel present, alive and in flow with life itself. So often, we teach, guide and inspire others simply because we show up as the unique soul that we are.
Let’s call out the resistance created by perpetually asking: What’s my purpose and instead lean into the very nature of what we are and trust that that is both enough and exactly what it means to live a life of meaning. As Nirvina puts it: Come as you are.
Keep those ego voices in check and remember, you are exactly where you’re supposed to be, because you’re having this very experience.
